The Austin Food Truck Festival at Barton Square Creek Mall (in the parking lot) was held Sunday April 15th from 12-4 with VIP tickets gaining entry around 10:45a. Many trucks were featured including:
- Elsie’s Egg Rolls
- American Girl Grill
- The Rolling Rooster
- Pineapple Ninjaz
- Happy Lobster
- Mission Dogs
- Coldstone Creamery
The event was co-hosted between Austin’s Party Scene and The Rolling Rooster (a local favorite food truck gone restaurant establishment) and powered by TouchBistro. This event benefits a variety of charities. The April 15th festival benefited Caritas of Austin (a non-profit organization fighting to end homelessness).
The variety of foods ranged from Maine lobster rolls, egg rolls, burgers, tacos, chicken and waffles as well as a Coldstone Creamery truck for dessert (along with snow cones and other ice cream options). The bar areas were serviced by local favorites Dulce Vida Tequila and American Born Whiskey.
The live DJ didn’t get set up and started until after 1p, but once he started it was a much livelier event. The event was advertised as no dogs allowed, yet there were at least 10-15 in attendance (had I known, I would’ve brought my dog).
All in all the event was poorly executed. There weren’t enough trucks to feed the number of people in attendance, the music started late in the event and made it uncomfortable to a point, and the event organizers didn’t seem to understand the difference between VIP admission and general admission.
Until next time,
Nessa
